For a karaoke addict, an invitation to meet the team at the Lucky Voice HQ is a bit like being invited for tea with Queen. Awe-inspiring but terrifying in equal measure.
Would I be expected to sing on arrival? Would I be asked for top ten signature karaoke tracks and be judged on my playlist? So much to fret about…
In the end, it was a total delight. Everyone was charm personified and at no point was a mic passed to me mid-meeting. Phew.
And so together we hatched a plan for charioke world domination. Hurrah!
We’d agreed on a London to Brighton marathon at Lucky Voice Brighton and Islington, spanning two consecutive dates (2nd and 9th November) and I emerged from the meeting clutching a long shopping list that looked something like this:
A gaggle of charities eager to field teams
London-based singers mad enough to karaoke for ten hours x 72
Brighton-based singers with equal amounts of karaoke stamina x 81
Sacks of Money, Money, Money in individual sponsorship
A bundle of companies keen to shovel free food and prizes for competitions our way
A fleet of journalists chomping at the bit to big up our event
A garish web page to pump information into cyberspace
A Faceache page to join singers in peaceful harmony
Some celebs with a GSOH to ‘guest-star’
Blimey. I felt nauseous just looking at it. I went back to the office and googled:
“How to organise a charity fundraiser with 150 people in six weeks”.
And this is what Google replied with:
